Overview
Mission
- Appropriate anaesthetic techniques are provided for the patients undergoing various surgical procedures.
- Effective critical care services are provided for patients in emergency and intensive care areas
- All plexus/nerve blocks, central venous cannulation are performed under ultrasound guidance.
- Pain relief procedures are done under ultrasound & fluroscopic guidance.
- Regular academic activities for UG & PG are carried out. Research projects are taken up by faculty in addition to the post-graduate dissertations. All research projects are registered with clinical trial registry (CTRI). Faculties are motivated to publish in journals with high impact factor, Pub Med/Scopus indexed journals.
Vision
- To improve the quality of plexus/nerve blocks further as well as to extend the applications of ultrasound guided practice in other areas such as emergency & intensive care, pain relief etc.
- To enhance the number of pain relief procedures as well as to improve the quality by applications of ultrasound/C-arm.
- To increase the research projects undertaken by faculty so as to increase the number of publications in well-reputed, high impact factor, Pub Med/Scopus indexed journals.
- To improve the quality of teaching by adopting more number of simulation methods.
Programme Specific Outcomes
UG
- In addition to basic knowledge in all undergraduate subjects, the students should obtain the knowledge about basic concepts of commonly used anesthesia techniques and its implications on common diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, etc.
- The student should learn the basic airway management skills.
- The students should learn basic etiquettes of operation theatres and develop proper communication skills.
PG – M.D. Anesthesiology
- The PG students should obtain the complete knowledge about the concepts of all the anesthesia techniques and its implications on various diseases
- They should be able to use the appropriate device for specific clinical scenario, including ultrasound, various difficult airway tools. Besides, they should have proficiency to teach UG students.
- The student should develop good communication skills and leadership qualities.

Facilities
Well-equipped 12 Major and two minor operation theatres are available. Various equipment and devices with cutting-edge-technology have been procured to improve the comfort as well as safety of the patients. Portable Ultrasound machine (SonoSite- Edge II) is available for guiding the regional blocks, pain-relief procedures, arterial/central venous cannulation, cardiac evaluation, etc. All varieties of surgical procedures are performed with meticulous care by the team of surgeons and anesthesiologists. Besides, emergency procedures are taken up round the clock.

Latest editions of world class text books as well as journals are available. Updated every year with high quality text books written by internationally reputed authors.
Department Museum:
Museum has collections of old equipment having historical significance and charts describing the breakthrough events that helped the field of Anesthesiology to progress in leaps and bounds.

We run a pain clinic which is functioning on all working days.
Academics
- UG, PG teaching sessions are conducted regularly as per the norms. We also do quality research activities.
- We actively participate in various academic activities such as conferences, CMEs of regional, national, international level.
