Department of General Surgery

Overview

The dedicated department of General Surgery started in the year 2006 and presently functioning round the clock with eight units, to provide comprehensive surgical care. The surgeons in our department excel in advanced Laparoscopic procedures, major Gastro intestinal surgeries and Endocrine surgeries. We do have a comprehensive screening program for malignancies so that cancers are diagnosed at the earliest possible time and Oncoplastic procedures are done by experienced and super speciality surgeons. We also do diagnostic & therapeutic endoscopies (Upper GI and Colonoscopy). Our department has well experienced faculties for teaching, training and mentoring our undergraduate and postgraduate students. We do all type of general surgeries at affordable cost. We do have tie ups with insurance schemes such as the Tamilnadu Chief Minister’s health insurance scheme, ESI, ECHS, Star Health, etc. for various surgical procedures.

Department of General Surgery is dedicated to provide outstanding clinical care for all people through continuous updation of knowledge, skills, innovation and research, while training the future generation of surgical leaders. We focus on training the residents and postgraduates to excel especially in major Gastro intestinal surgeries, advanced Laparoscopic surgeries and Oncoplastic procedures.

Academics

UNDERGRADUATE TRAINING

With well experienced and dedicated faculties, we offer excellent teaching and regular surgical training for undergraduates. UG Training includes Theory, Clinical and demonstration classes as per the present curriculum prescribed by MCI and Pondicherry University. Evaluation of students is done periodically by conducting theory & practical examinations and viva.

CRRI TRAINING

The Interns are given Intensive Training in outpatient, inpatient and emergency surgical care. Hands on training are provided for minor surgical Procedures under supervision and assisting in major cases.

POST GRADUATE TRAINING

Post Graduate (PG) MS programme has been started since 2014. PG students training focuses more on clinical knowledge acquaintance in managing elective and emergency surgical disorders with everyday clinical ward rounds, emergency ward duty and operative day duties. PG students are engaged with teaching programmes such as Seminar, Group discussion, Journal club and clinical case presentations. They are also involved in research activities and encouraged to participate and present posters & papers in various conferences.
