The department began its services in the year 2006 under Ramachandra Educational Trust Chennai, in Puducherry. Presently our department has II Units, which provides necessary care for all eye disorders. We run sub specialty clinics include Glaucoma, Cornea, Retina, Orbit & Oculoplasty, Uvea, Neuro-Ophthalmology and Squint form Monday to Friday. Our academic program includes teaching and training of both undergraduates and postgraduates, conduct CME, poster competition, health education, public awareness program and screening camps for public & school students regularly .
Our department is registered under human organ transplant act for harvesting and transplantation of cornea through our registered Eye bank, in addition we registered with District Blindness Control Society (DBCS) for providing free cataract surgery through camps for the poor people. The department has two separate operation theatres with the state of the art equipments for micro-surgeries.
We provide variety of treatment for ocular diseases, including contact lens fitting, lasers and different surgeries like Small incision cataract surgery, Phacoemulsification, Paediatric cataract surgeries, Glaucoma surgeries, Vitreo-retinal surgeries, Squint correction surgeries, Keratoplasty, Ptreygium excision with graft and surgeries for Dacryocystitis, Entropion, Ectropion, Ptosis and Orbital diseases. Our distinctive services are providing cosmetic Oculoplastic procedures and leaders among Puducherry private medical colleges in implementing DBCS program.

Undergraduate Programme specific outcomes
Undergraduate students at the time of graduation will be able to apply fundamental knowledge and skills in Ophthalmology for the evaluation and management of common Ophthalmology disorders.
They will be able to recognize early and refer the vision threatening ophthalmic diseases.
Postgraduate Programme specific outcomes
Postgraduate students at the time of completion of their course will be able to apply their knowledge in Ophthalmology practice for screening, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and early recognition of complications of common ocular & ocular adnexal diseases in the community. They will be able to implement and monitor the National Programme pertaining to Ophthalmology.
They should be able to identify and manage the ocular manifestations of systemic diseases and also involving concerned specialist opinion.
They will be able to do basic research and innovation for the continuous development of Ophthalmology profession and for the benefit of society.

Our department has variety of modern equipments for diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases.
Diagnostic Facilities
Auto Refractometer for checking refractive errors, Non contact and Applanation tonometers for measuring Intraocular Pressure, Pachymetry for Corneal Thickness measurement and Humphery Visual Field Analyser, Indirect Ophthalmoscopy, Fundus camera, B-Scan, Fundus Fluorescein Angiography (FFA) and Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to detect glaucoma, neurologist field defect and to diagnose various Vitreo-Retinal and Choroidal disorders.
Treatment Facilities
The department of Ophthalmology has fully equipped with exclusive state-of-the-art ophthalmic operation theatres. Small incision sutureless cataract surgery (SICS) and Phacoemulsification are done here for cataract. Phacoemulsification is being performed under topical anesthesia. We have high end operating microscope with video recording facility. Department provides Keratoplasty service for people with corneal blindness, along with surgeries for glaucoma and squint. Common Oculoplastic surgeries and cosmetic eye surgeries are done. Treatment for common vitreo-retinal diseases like diabetic retinopathy is being done here.
