The Pulmonary Medicine department was started in the year 2015.The respiratory physicians are competent, well experienced, dedicated and experts in treating full range of respiratory disorders. The department is equipped with latest equipments. The physicians are interested to provide best health care services to the needy & also involved in academic activities and we are upgrading the department to start M.D. Pulmonary Medicine in near future.
VISION:
Our department will imbibe, create, disseminate and apply latest clinical skills and expansion of knowledge to minimise the burden of respiratory diseases in the public there by creating healthier society. We are taking necessary steps along with the National Tuberculosis Elimination program to eradicate tuberculosis from our country.
MISSION:
To prevent and manage all kind of pulmonary diseases by providing adequate best treatment along with the integration of innovative patient care. We excel academic activities to the medical students with translational research process to upgrade the department.

NTEP SERVICES:
National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP) – this is a unit under the control of district tuberculosis office, Puducherry. Free microscopy and DOTS therapy are extended to patients. Patients are registered under NTEP and help them to provide DOTS therapy.
PULMONARY FUNCTION TEST:
Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT’s) are useful in diagnosing various lung disorders. They also measure the degree of impairment due to diseases. The progression of a disease and the effectiveness of treatments can be carefully observed with regularly scheduled testing. Pulmonary Function Tests are used frequently to assess preoperative risk under the supervision by Pulmonologist.

PATIENT EDUCATION (AWARENESS PROGRAMME):
This centre aims at improving the quality of life in COPD/Bronchial Asthma patients. These patients are taught proper technique of using inhalers and breathing exercises. Patients are educated about the hazards of smoking, tobacco use and smoking cessation awareness created among patients. Also tuberculosis patients are routinely counselled regarding the condition, need for completion of treatment and regular follow-up.
The department periodically conducts patient education on following days.
